This position is responsible for a team in execution of global and regional category specific projects and will partner with Marketing Category Directors to develop a global product strategy including a robust R&D project pipeline fulfilling market and customer needs with a competitive new product portfolio.

This role will work closely with the R&D leadership team, cross-functional leadership teams, the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), and across the Medical and Industrial groups to drive and improve end-to-end innovation strategy, portfolio, execution, and timely product launches. The role will lead the R&D organization through mapping of the current Medical and Industrial state, and identification of opportunities and challenges and build an integrated roadmap to strengthen strategic alignment and improve executional effectiveness.



  • Leads R&D category teams:

    • Oversee team of managers, engineers, and technicians in execution of global and regional Industrial and Medical projects following stage gate development process.

    • Support team development, constantly assessing capabilities, managing performance outcomes and attracting the best talent.

    • Lead all aspects of organizational talent development in critical execution skills (e.g. governance, project management and Design To Value) across all leadership and professional levels.

  • Drives strategic alignment:

    • Partner with cross functional leadership teams and ELT to align to strategy, vision, mission, and innovation goals.

    • Understand the global Medical and Industrial category dynamics and key players from a consumer standpoint as well as the key elements of the value creation chain.

    • Ensure clarity of role in driving the future strategy.

  • Improves portfolio health and decision-making:

    • Maintain a clear and realistic project pipeline having a revenue potential consistent with market growth objectives.

    • Lead regular Project Review Board meetings to review projects and ensure alignment & support between R&D, Marketing, Sales, Finance, Engineering, Procurement, and Operations.

    • Enhance front-end process and capabilities to identify and deliver new pipeline opportunities from both market driven and customer driven opportunities.

    • Improves portfolio decision-making and trade-offs to ensure the company is collectively selecting and fully resourcing the most impactful opportunities in Industrial and Medical.

    • Responsible for driving process and approach for unmet need identification and value assessment.

  • Increases Effectiveness of New Product Development for Industrial and Medical projects:

    • Map the current state New Product Innovation (NPI) process for Medical and Industrial, governance, skills, and culture and identifies the most impactful opportunities to drive improvements to NPI effectiveness.

    • Identify the most critical metrics to track NPI performance and measure improvement, resulting from change initiatives.

    • Leads critical change initiatives to improve the agility and rigor of new product development leading to validated improvement in target metrics.

  • Drives a Culture of Innovation and Executional Excellence:

    • Drive cultural change in partnership with ELT, Marketing, R&D leadership teams and cross functional teams to increase engagement and business results.

    • Enhance transparency, connectivity, empowerment, and simplification across the organization.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science or related field.  Advanced degree preferred.

  • 15 years of proven related leadership and progressive business experience, preferably in Medical Devices, Engineered Consumer Healthcare Products.

  • 7 years of experience in leading and managing others, preferably in a global capacity with a multi-cultural mindset.

  • Experience in a premier multinational company known for R&D best practices as well as smaller company experience is desirable.

  • B2B engineered materials innovation and product development experience in a sales and marketing driven company.

  • Surgical knowledge is a plus.

  • Must possess strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals.

Director R&D Category-Medical & Industrial





This position is responsible for leading the Innovation Process at the company: design, implement, monitor, enforce and ingrain global New Product Development (NPD)/stage gate process; track and report critical innovation KPI’s.  Ensure effective operation of the NPD process.  Develop, manage, and report on project portfolio to ensure healthy long-term growth.



  • Lead global innovation process, including development and optimization of NPD process, organize Portfolio Reviews and Gate reviews, develop tools, systems, training programs, metric development; report Innovation KPI’s including financial reporting, project health and readiness, and pipeline sufficiency to meet business plan objectives across categories.

  • Work closely with senior management and functional leadership to establish portfolio priorities, support resource allocation and portfolio balancing, and ensure portfolio management excellence to meet agreed upon, timelines, cost, and financial targets.

  • Provide program management support for global innovation & development projects, including project planning, risk management, status reporting; achieve project management excellence across global R&D.

  • Lead and drive the disciplined governance and NPD process.  Execute the stage gate process across the company.  Act objectively across functions to drive the best resourcing decisions across functions.

    • Ensure alignment and agreement on NPD assumptions and risk management across functions and through NPD governance processes (e.g., Product Review Board).

  • Manages the portfolio of projects at a strategic level; produces accurate and timely reporting of NPD portfolio status throughout the program life cycle.

    • Monitor progress against key checkpoints and decision dates.

    • Highlight risks, bottlenecks, and barriers and provide solutions to address.

    • Collaborates with project teams to identify gaps, allocate resources appropriately, and drive decision making for category pipelines to meet both short term and long-term innovation objectives.

  • Establishes and tracks innovation KPI’s, including status/health of portfolio, providing visibility and insight to executive stakeholders.

  • 5 years of relevant project/program management experience.

  • Conducts a significant level of formulation/applications work in the lab per project plan. Asks appropriate questions to clarify requirements/expectations/critical performance parameters

  • Plan/design/perform complex experimental work. Interpret/compile/report experimental results through written lab reports and presentations

  • Documents lab results through appropriate means including laboratory notebooks, interim and full reports, project meeting minutes, and monthly summaries. When visiting customers, writes reports with corresponding action items

R&D Chemist - Aerosols





The Senior Chemical Process Engineer serve as lead in new product introduction and scale up processes into our manufacturing environment at the Haverhill, MA Inkjet manufacturing plant.


In this role, serve as primary new product introduction & product scale up resource to ensure a robust commercialized product with respect to operations, safety, quality, and cost, that support the goals of the plant/business/division. Lead commissioning and/or participate in site capital growth projects. Aid in the development of implementation plans to achieve business objectives, transfer of technology, best practices, safety and quality improvements, and other improvement efforts.



• Drive new product introduction, manage toll manufacturers, and bring on capital investments to support commercialization of new customer programs
• Plan/facilitate product line capital investment projects linked to safety improvements, capability/capacity up to completion. Initiate proposals/innovations for capital investment to continuously improve the manufacturing operation. Execute capital investments in support
• Lead/support new product development/trials. Develop run plan and work with engineers and supervision to ensure operators are trained before execution

• BS Chemical Engineering. 7+ years’ experience in chemical manufacturing or process development

• Understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools and principals. Experience in product specification, product uniformity and variation. Experience with Analytical problem-solving methodologies (e.g., root cause analysis, failure mode analysis)
• Supply chain know-how and Project Management expertise
